‘The guest speaker was excellent; his images were fantastic and his oration was brilliant too.’We were very fortunate to receive a fantastic talk from Andrew McCarthy (ARPS) this week.
Andrew is based in Exeter and specialises in nature and wildlife photography. His talk was very inspiring with some amazing images captured using some really interesting techniques. Andrew not only shared top quality images but also helpful tips about the sorts of equipment needed for some of the shots and had a vast knowledge of insects and tips on where to find them and even at what time of year. If you missed the evening or want to keep in touch with Andrew and his latest projects then his website is: https://andrewmccarthyphotography.co.uk

Last night was the night of the annual battle between Liskeard, Ivybridge and ourselves.
As you know each club submits 8 prints and 8 DPI's and marks are awarded out of 20. Ivybridge were the organisers but unfortunately at the last moment due to various circumstances, non of their clubcould attend. Luckily we managed to get the listing of entries and score sheets from them in time for the event. David Bridges from Bodmin was the selected judge, who did a compressive review of each entry and gave marks appropriately. The scores after the prints were, Ivybridge 118, Saltash 125 and Liskeard 128, so all pretty close at the top with the DPI's to come after the tea break. Our top score for the prints was MODERN MAN taken by Dan with a score of 19. This happened to be the highest given to anyof the entries all evening, so well done Dan. After perusing the DPI's and the scores tallied, Ivybridge had 124, Liskeard 126 and Saltash 131. Our top scorers for the DPI's of 18 were, KEEPING A WATCHFUL EYE by Michael, OPEN THE GATE by Jason and SNOW AT POSTBRIDGE by Steve. As you have probably calculated, the final result was a WIN FOR SALTASH with 256, closely followed by Liskeard with 254 and Ivybridge with 242. Well done to everyone, great team effort which resulted in an enjoyable evening socialising with friends from Liskeard and looking through 48 wonderful images. The Gerry Competition is an annual competition held between Saltash, Plymouth, Plymstock and Plymouth and District Camera Clubs. Plymouth Camera Club have the honours of hosting and it is quite the competition between the clubs. |
