Christmas in the Community

27/11/2021

This year the club has decided to join in with the Christmas Tree Festival at St Nicholas & St Faith church on Station Road in Saltash.

Adrian and his wife Christine have taken on the role of producing a fabulous tree for the club and have added it to a display of over 60 trees in the church.

The church is open:

Sat 27th Nov. 10a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sat 4th Dec.  10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sundays.        2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Weekdays.     2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Entry to the church is free. Donations welcome

The festival ends on Friday 10th December

It is well worth a visit. Adrian has sent across a photo of our tree in place and it does indeed look fabulous and is a great avert for our club. Thank you very much to Adrian and Christine for the time and effort they have clearly taken in doing this for us.

Club Merits - Street Life

15/11/2021

Our second merits competition of the year was on the subject of "Street Life". This proved to be a challenge for many members who commented how much out of their comfort zone this was.
There were a number of entries in the colour, mono and projected categories for the night but we were lacking in the open print competition. There is no need to feel apprehensive about entering a print competition - if you need help with printing or with the rules for mounts etc then please do ask one of the more established members who will be able to give advice and help. The open is a great chance to stick a toe in the water and see how you go as the subject can be ANYTHING. If you're really unsure about printing or find yourself short on time then pop something in to the projected section - give it a go - we learn, improve and gain confidence the more we do something and it would be great to have some new names swiping the win!

So to the results...

The colour print was well entered the results are as follows:

1st - Sue Etheridge
2nd - Dave Pemberton
3rd - Louise Richey

Sue's print - taken at the Illuminate festival - was fab. It captured the atmosphere and was full of vibrancy and interest. Many congratulations to Sue - I believe this was one of her first entries into the print competitions and she definitely nailed it with this one!

The Mono print:

1st - Louise Richey
2nd - Louise Richey
3rd - Keith Morriss

Louise's image of bollards on the pavement reflecting people on the street was an alternate view and members clearly liked this and voted into 1st position.

Projected:
1st - Louise Richey
2nd - Dan Foote
3rd - Steve Evans

Louise's 'British Summer Time' captured the irony of the classic British summer with a wet and dull day on the Barbican outside a shop with a large plastic ice cream cone enticing people in to buy their wares.

All the images were of high quality and there were some very interesting entries - considering lots of us felt uncomfortable photographing strangers in the street - we did well!

Images from the winners are in the slideshow below.

Projected Image Trophy

As sent to members by Mike. Thank you Mike for organising the judging once again.

"Last night was the judging of our Projected Image Trophy when we were fortunate to have one of the most highly qualified photographers in the WCPF directory, namely Clive Greenland from Corsham in Wiltshire.

Clive went through all of our 64 entries giving his opinion on the good points and also assisted us on how we could have made some of the images slightly better with a little more forethought in composition and undertaking adjustments in post processing.

After viewing all he selected the best set of 4,  together with the best single image.

The winner of the set of 4 was David Pemberton with the best individual being awarded to Jason Donovan with an early morning take of Mam Tor, a 517 metre hill near Castleton in Derbyshire.

Well done to David and Jason."

The winning images are in the gallery but also in the slideshow below:
