Last night was the night of the annual battle between Liskeard, Ivybridge and ourselves.
As you know each club submits 8 prints and 8 DPI's and marks are awarded out of 20. Ivybridge were the organisers but unfortunately at the last moment due to various circumstances, non of their clubcould attend. Luckily we managed to get the listing of entries and score sheets from them in time for the event. David Bridges from Bodmin was the selected judge, who did a compressive review of each entry and gave marks appropriately. The scores after the prints were, Ivybridge 118, Saltash 125 and Liskeard 128, so all pretty close at the top with the DPI's to come after the tea break. Our top score for the prints was MODERN MAN taken by Dan with a score of 19. This happened to be the highest given to anyof the entries all evening, so well done Dan. After perusing the DPI's and the scores tallied, Ivybridge had 124, Liskeard 126 and Saltash 131. Our top scorers for the DPI's of 18 were, KEEPING A WATCHFUL EYE by Michael, OPEN THE GATE by Jason and SNOW AT POSTBRIDGE by Steve. As you have probably calculated, the final result was a WIN FOR SALTASH with 256, closely followed by Liskeard with 254 and Ivybridge with 242. Well done to everyone, great team effort which resulted in an enjoyable evening socialising with friends from Liskeard and looking through 48 wonderful images.

The Gerry Competition is an annual competition held between Saltash, Plymouth, Plymstock and Plymouth and District Camera Clubs. Plymouth Camera Club have the honours of hosting and it is quite the competition between the clubs. It was really great last night to have the Ashtorre buzzing again with around 25 in attendance for the 'Nightime' merit competition.
Lovely to see the likes of Paul, Simon and Mike who had not visited for a while, so look forward to seeing you all again soon. COLOUR PRINT, 1st Louise Richey, 2nd. Steve Evans, 3rd. Michael Nancekivell. BLACK AND WHITE, 1st. Steve Evans, 2nd. Louise Richey, 3rd. Michael Nancekivell. PROJECTED, 1st. Louise Richey, 2nd. Michael Nancekivell, 3rd. Steve Evans. OPEN, 1st. Dan Foote, 2nd. Kay Wilson, 3rd. Louise Richey. Well done to everyone who entered and to the winners. A great show of images. An interesting statistic is that from the 22 entries in the projected, 20 scored points while in the colour prints there were 16 entries and 15 scored points. I wondered if it would have been educational if during the period when the scores were being collated, the authors of some selected images explained to others how the picture was achieved and what camera settings etc. were used. I am sure that a lot would find this useful for future uses. Regards, Michael. Plymouth Camera Club last night hosted the annual Tamar Trophy competition for mono prints contested between Plymouth, Plymstock, Ivybridge and ourselves
where Petro Landers of Milton Combe was the judge. The hosts ensured we were as covid safe as possible by increasing the size of the room, spacing the seating with larger gaps and ensuring there was plenty of ventilation, so it was a shame that a few more from our club did not make the effort to attend. After giving his good points and recommended improvements to each entry as judges do, marks were awarded from 11 to 20 for each. After all the judging was complete, the marks were totaled and we came a creditable 3rd which seems to be traditional. Plymouth 172, Plymstock 153, Saltash 147 and Ivybridge 143. Dan's 'Modern Man' and Mike's 'Trials Car' were our top scorers with 18 each, while Plymouth had 2 with a maximum score of 20 together with 2 at 19, while Plymstock had 1 with the top score and 1 with 19. From Mike:
What a fantastic evening we had last night at the Ashtorre for the judging of our Colour Print Trophy. There were about 20 members present and it was great to see so many there, so thank you for coming. Let's hope that numbers will now grow from this and return to what we remember. Shame that time did not allow for us to socialise more but hopefully we can do so in the weeks to come. Last nights judge Simon Van - Orden from Samford Spiney was very thorough with his critiques giving us the good points and suggesting ways to improve. The results were as follows, Highly Commended, Dave Pemberton, Jason Donavan and Jason again. 3rd Kay Wilson, 2nd Dan Foote, Winner Kay Wilson. Well done to you all. Last night we held the judging of our annual Black and White Trophy competition.
We were fortunate to have Peter Hyett as our judge, who is a highly qualified and accomplished photographer from Exmouth. Peter gave his comments on each of the 48 entries and offered tips especially on how the impact of an image can be improved just by cropping differently. The results are as follows, H/C Dan Foote, H/C Dog watching and waiting. ( if this is yours then please let me know) H/C Steve Evans 3rd place, Dan Foote, 2nd place, Kay Wilson, Winner, Michael Nancekivell.
